CEBRAPAZ – the Brazilian Center for Solidarity with the Peoples and Struggle for Peace addresses the Brazilian social movements, the peace-loving people and the international solidarity movement, regardless of political and ideological inclination or religious creed and their members with a vehement call for the end of siege to the Gaza Strip and the immediate ceasefire, as an emergency solution to stop the war crimes being perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people, with the support of US imperialism.
The Palestinian people is again being martyred by intense and massive bombings, the forced displacement of over a million people and the unbearable siege that has been creating an extensive and deep humanitarian tragedy for 17 years. The United Nations announced that from the 25th of October onwards, all of the humanitarian action of the multilateral organization would be interrupted due to the lack of fuel and other supplies.
The sufferings of the Palestinian people are insufferable: ongoing loss of lives, destruction and trauma. It is high time we take a decisive step towards peace, which requires broad solidarity and peaceful coexistence.
We demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. It is time to end the cycle of destruction and suffering. We call for the respect of human rights, international humanitarian law, and international law in general, founded on the United Nations Charter. We condemn the forced displacement of populations, ethnic cleansing, genocide, and the collective punishment of a people. As a democratic and internationalist organization, we believe that it is our duty to join other organizations and social movements in Brazil and in the world to protect the rights of those targeted by the ongoing massacre in Palestine.
We also struggle for the political solution of the asymmetric conflict between the State of Israel and the Palestinian people. The only way to achieve such a solution is Palestinian independence, with the effective sovereignty of the national state, which requires the end of its military occupation by Israel. We defend the two-states solution, in the borders prior to the occupation of 1967, with the return of Palestinian refugees and the establishment of the capital of Palestine in East Jerusalem, in coexistence, security and prosperity for all.
Peace in Gaza and in all of Palestine, as in Israel, is not only a responsibility of the parties involved, but of all the international community. We ask that the world leaders work tirelessly to support peace. The first step is ending the siege of Gaza and the immediate cease-fire.
